Mouse | MALT1 | 10892 | mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation gene 1 | Bcl10 and MALT1, products of distinct chromosomal translocations in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, cooperate in activating NF-kappaB. | Human | CARD11 | 84433 | caspase recruitment domain family, member 11 | METHODS: By using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis, the expression levels of mRNA of CARMA1, CARD9, Bcl10, and the apoptosis inhibitor 2 (API2)-MALT1 chimeric transcript were determined in tissue specimens from 65 patients with primary gastric B-cell lymphoma (43 patients with low-grade MALT lymphoma, 16 patients with MALT lymphoma plus diffuse large B-cell lymphoma [DLBL], and 6 patients with DLBL without MALT lymphoma) and in tissue specimens from 18 patients with chronic gastritis. In addition, CARMA1 expression was positive more frequently in patients of DLBL without MALT lymphoma (100%) than in patients of MALT lymphoma (51%). BACKGROUND: Although caspase recruitment domain (CARD) membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) protein 1 (CARMA1) and CARD9 play important roles in lymphocyte activation, the significance of CARMA1 and CARD9 in the pathogenesis of gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma remains to be elucidated. | Human | FCRL4 | 83417 | Fc receptor-like 4 | Similarly, in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas IRTA1 was mainly expressed by tumor cells involved in lympho-epithelial lesions. | Human | ODZ2 | 57451 | | Gene rearrangements of ODZ2 is associated with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma | Human | AICDA | 57379 | activation-induced cytidine deaminase | AID retains its exclusive association with numerous, residual germinal centers in parotid Sjogren's syndrome-MALT lymphomas, whereas neoplastic marginal zone-like B cells are consistently AID negative | Human | BCL11A | 53335 | B-cell CLL/lymphoma 11A (zinc finger protein) | Hitherto, juxtaposition of BCL11A and IGH has only been described in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) and immunocytoma. | Human | FOXP1 | 27086 | forkhead box P1 | This study identifies FOXP1 as a new translocation partner of IGH in a site-dependent subset of MALT lymphomas This study identifies FOXP1 as a new translocation partner of IGH in a site-dependent subset of MALT lymphomas. One high grade lymphoma, transformed from a low grade MALT lymphoma, was positive for CD43. Immunophenotypic studies demonstrating a B-cell phenotype, light chain restriction, coexpression of CD43, and staining of atypical lymphocytes with bcl-2 support a diagnosis of MALT lymphoma. In differential diagnosis, CD23 was useful in distinguishing B-cell CLL from centrocytic lymphoma (P < 0.0001); CD5 (P < 0.0001), CD6 (P < 0.005), and CD43 (P < 0.0001) distinguish centrocytic lymphoma from CB/CC lymphoma; and CD10 (P < 0.005), CD43 (P = 0.06), Leu-8 (P = 0.08), and Ig heavy chain (P = 0.01) may help distinguish CB/CC lymphoma from immunocytoma, monocytoid B-cell lymphoma, and MALT-type lymphoma. METHODS AND RESULTS: Tissue samples of 38 patients with gastric MALT lymphoma were immunohistochemically stained for expression of CD10, CD75 and/or CD43. Expression of CD10, CD75 and CD43 in MALT lymphoma and their usefulness in discriminating MALT lymphoma from follicular lymphoma and chronic gastritis. Immunohistochemical analysis was essential in establishing the diagnosis of MALT lymphoma in all 4 of the cases, and demonstrated characteristic negative staining for CD3, CD5, and CD43, positive staining for CD20, and monotypic staining for either kappa or lambda light chain immunoglobulin markers. Only four of 26 MALT lymphomas were slightly positive for CD43. However, CD43 expression cannot in the majority of cases be used to distinguish between low-grade MALT lymphoma and gastritis. | Human | ST6GAL1 | 6480 | ST6 beta-galactosamide alpha-2,6-sialyltranferase 1 | AIMS: While it may be difficult to discriminate between chronic gastritis, MALT lymphoma and a gastric location of a nodal lymphoma using histology of small endoscopic biopsies alone, additional markers like CD10, CD75 and CD43 and proliferative activity may be of value. Ten cases of nodal follicle centre B-cell lymphomas (n = 11) and 18 cases of high-grade MALT lymphoma (n = 22) showed moderate to high CD75 expression (25-100% positive cells). CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that combining both CD10 and CD75 may be useful in discriminating between low-grade MALT, high-grade MALT lymphoma and extranodal location of follicular lymphoma. All tested low-grade MALT lymphomas (n = 9) and chronic gastritis (n = 6) were negative (0-25%) for CD75. | Human | SIAH1 | 6477 | siah E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 1 | Their protein products listed below immediately suggest cell signalling pathways/processes worthy of further investigation in elucidating the mechanism of CpG 5mer activity: caspase 2, the transcription factors Atf4, Hic, HoxB3 and Rqcd1, the splicing factors Rbmx, Sfrs5 and Sfrs7, the DNA replication factors Mcm5 and Brd4, phosphoinositide-3-kinase, annexin A1, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation 1 and three enzymes involved in protein ubiquitylation, Siah1, Gsa7 and Nin283. | Human | CXCL12 | 6387 | chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 12 | Up-regulation by SDF-1 alpha of lymphocyte adhesion mediated by integrin alpha 4 beta 7 could contribute to lymphocyte homing to mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues | Human | SDC1 | 6382 | syndecan 1 | DESIGN AND METHODS: We analyzed 90 tumors (20 LPL, 41 MALT lymphomas, 12 N-MZL, 17 S-MZL), investigating the expression of CD5, CD10, CD20, CD23, CD27, CD38, CD79a, CD138, Bcl6, cyclin D1, IRF4 and Ki67 antigens by immunohistochemistry. | Human | CCL21 | 6366 | chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 21 | in salivary gland MALT lymphoma the lymphoid chemokines CXCL13 and CCL21 are directly implicated in the organization of ectopic reactive lymphoid tissue |
