Mouse | MST1R | 4486 | macrophage stimulating 1 receptor (c-met-related tyrosine kinase) | Studies employing transgenic models further demonstrated that over-expression of RON in lung epithelial cells results in multiple tumor formation with features of large cell undifferentiated carcinoma. | Human | SFTPA1 | 653509 | surfactant protein A1 | We found positive results for TTF-1 and SP-A in 75% and 46% of pulmonary adenocarcinomas and in 50% and 25% of pulmonary non-neuroendocrine large cell carcinomas (LCCs), respectively. | Human | CD109 | 135228 | CD109 molecule | When CD109 expression was examined in 33 cases of human lung cell carcinomas by quantitative RT-PCR, a significant high expression of CD109 was detected in about half of squamous cell carcinomas examined, but not in adenocarcinoma, large-cell carcinoma and small-cell carcinoma. | Human | TUBA1C | 84790 | tubulin, alpha 1c | All six large cell carcinomas gave strong immunostaining for tubulin. | Human | RASSF1 | 11186 | Ras association (RalGDS/AF-6) domain family member 1 | there is an inverse relationship between Kras2 activation and RASSF1A promoter methylation in the majority of human lung adenocarcinomas and large cell carcinomas | Human | LZTS1 | 11178 | leucine zipper, putative tumor suppressor 1 | To elucidate the role of FEZ1 in lung cancer, we have analyzed its expression by immunohistochemistry in 103 primary lung cancer specimens including 98 non-small cell lung cancers (57 adenocarcinomas, 32 squamous cell carcinomas, 7 large cell carcinomas, and 2 others) and five small cell carcinomas. | Human | MSLN | 10232 | mesothelin | Mesothelin was present in more than half (53%) of adenocarcinomas and a minority (13%) of large cell carcinomas but was absent in small cell carcinomas. | Human | EBAG9 | 9166 | estrogen receptor binding site associated, antigen, 9 | Immunohistochemical analysis revealed the relationship between RCAS1 expression and clinicopathological variables (age, sex, smoking, histology, differentiation grade, pathological T factor, N factor and stage) and the prognostic significance of RCAS1 in 66 lung-cancer patients who underwent curative operations: 33 adenocarcinomas, 24 squamous-cell carcinomas, 3 large-cell carcinomas, 4 adenosquamous carcinomas and 2 small-cell carcinomas. | Human | MBD2 | 8932 | methyl-CpG binding domain protein 2 | In early-stage NSCLC (n = 70) expression of MeCP2 and MBD2 was significantly lower in squamous cell carcinoma than in adenocarcinoma or large cell carcinoma (P = 0.03 and P = 0.01). | Human | TP63 | 8626 | tumor protein p63 | In conclusion, p63 expression is consistently expressed in squamous cell carcinoma in the lung, but is also expressed in a subset of adenocarcinomas and large cell carcinomas. Thirty percent of adenocarcinomas and 37% of large cell carcinomas showed p63 expression. p63 immunoreactivity was seen in 109/118 squamous cell carcinomas, 15/95 adenocarcinomas, 2/2 adenosquamous carcinomas, 4/6 large cell carcinomas, 9/20 poorly differentiated NET, and 1/37 typical and atypical carcinoids (p < 0.001). The p63 genomic sequence was amplified in 88% of squamous carcinomas, in 42% of large cell carcinomas, and in 11% of adenocarcinomas of the lung. p63 expression is consistently expressed in squamous cell carcinoma in the lung, but is also expressed in a subset of adenocarcinomas and large cell carcinomas All adenocarcinomas (ACAs; n = 12), large-cell carcinomas (n = 4), and metastatic ACAs (n = 5) were p63 negative. | Human | TP53 | 7157 | tumor protein p53 | study investigated the correlation of p53 abnormalities in 15 patients with pulmonary large cell carcinomas; 5/15 expressed p53 and none had mutant p53 sequences; there was a negative survival correlation with positive p53 immunostaining (P = 0.05) | Human | NKX2-1 | 7080 | | BACKGROUND: The assessment of thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF-1) expression is a useful way to investigate the origin of lung adenocarcinomas or large cell carcinomas when dealing with a solitary lung nodule in a patient with a history of extrathoracic cancer. AIMS: The thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) is a highly specific immunohistochemical marker for the identification of pulmonary adenocarcinomas and non-neuroendocrine large cell carcinomas, especially in patients presenting with metastatic carcinomas of unknown primary site. Thyroid transcription factor-1 is the superior immunohistochemical marker for pulmonary adenocarcinomas and large cell carcinomas compared to surfactant proteins A and B. TTF-1 staining is very reliable in discerning whether a brain metastasis has arisen from a pulmonary or nonpulmonary site, particularly when dealing with adenocarcinomas and large-cell carcinomas. Thyroid transcription factor-1 was not detected in squamous cell carcinomas and large cell carcinomas. When the metastatic lung carcinomas were subtyped, TTF-1 staining was noted in 11 of 11 (100%) adenocarcinomas, in 6 of 7 (86%) small-cell carcinomas, in 15 of 19 (79%) large-cell carcinomas, and in none of 3 (0%) squamous cell carcinomas. Immunoreactivity for TTF-1 was shown in 76% of adenocarcinomas and 26% of large cell carcinomas. Using the monoclonal antibody 8G7G3/1, TTF-1 was detectable in 75% of non-mucinous pulmonary adenocarcinomas and in 40% of large cell carcinomas but in only 10% of mucinous adenocarcinomas and not in squamous cell carcinomas. Immunoreactivity for pro-SP-B and TTF-1 was examined in paraffin sections of 370 primary lung carcinomas (208 adenocarcinomas, 101 squamous cell carcinomas, and 61 large cell carcinomas) and 95 malignant mesotheliomas, using a pro-SP-B antiserum and a monoclonal TTF-1 antibody with a biotin-streptavidin detection system. We found positive results for TTF-1 and SP-A in 75% and 46% of pulmonary adenocarcinomas and in 50% and 25% of pulmonary non-neuroendocrine large cell carcinomas (LCCs), respectively. Formalin fixed, paraffin embedded cell blocks from 35 primary lung tumors (16 adenocarcinomas, 8 squamous cell carcinomas, 6 large cell undifferentiated carcinomas, and 5 small cell carcinomas) and 20 metastatic carcinomas (6 breast lesions, 6 colon lesions, 3 urinary bladder lesions, 2 kidney lesions, 1 biliary tract lesion, 1 endometrial lesion, and 1 thyroid lesion) were immunostained with monoclonal antibodies to TTF-1, PE-10, CK7, and CK 20. | Human | TIMP2 | 7077 | TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 2 | Localization of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 was examined by immunohistochemistry in 43 resected NSCLC (22 adenocarcinomas, 17 squamous cell carcinomas, 4 large cell carcinomas) using specific anti-human monoclonal antibodies. | Human | TIMP1 | 7076 | TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 | Localization of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 was examined by immunohistochemistry in 43 resected NSCLC (22 adenocarcinomas, 17 squamous cell carcinomas, 4 large cell carcinomas) using specific anti-human monoclonal antibodies. | Human | THRB | 7068 | thyroid hormone receptor, beta | In addition to D3S3, the lowest frequencies of heterozygosity were seen at D3F15S2 for Ad (9%), D3S2 for large cell carcinomas (8%), and THRB for adenosquamous (0%), bronchioloalveolar (0%), and large cell (8%) carcinomas. | Human | TGFBR2 | 7048 | transforming growth factor, beta receptor II (70/80kDa) | the defective TGFBR2 expression might contribute to the carcinogenesis and/or development of large cell carcinoma | Human | TFRC | 7037 | transferrin receptor (p90, CD71) | Normal lung tissue did not stain for transferrin receptor; however, 13 of 17 (76%) adenocarcinomas, 13 of 14 (93%) squamous cell carcinomas, and the 1 large cell carcinoma stained positively for transferrin receptor. | Human | ADAM17 | 6868 | ADAM metallopeptidase domain 17 | Lower mRNA expression of ADAM17 mRNA in solitary large cell hepatocellular carcinoma may be associated with the better molecular pathological features | Human | SYP | 6855 | synaptophysin | The remaining 47 cases of pure undifferentiated large cell carcinoma were evaluated immunohistochemically for neuroendocrine differentiation using a combination of the markers neuron specific enolase, synaptophysin and chromogranin A. Immunohistochemical evaluation of undifferentiated large cell carcinomas using a combination of neuron specific enolase, chromogranin A, and synaptophysin did not provide more therapeutically relevant information than that obtained by light microscopic assessment. KTS9 cells showed morphological characteristics of large cell undifferentiated carcinoma (LCUC) and expressed some general NE markers including neuron-specific enolase (NSE), protein gene product (PGP) 9.5, neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM), synaptophysin and neurofilaments (NF) of 200 kd. | Human | SPRR1B | 6699 | small proline-rich protein 1B | SPRR1B expression is either detectable or PMA (phorbol 13-myristate 12-acetate) -inducible in several malignant BE cells including squamous, adeno, small and large cell carcinomas. | Human | SLC2A3 | 6515 | solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter), member 3 | CONCLUSION: The present study supports the hypothesis that tumor cell differentiation in combination with overexpression of GLUT-1 and GLUT-3 determine the extent of FDG accumulation and that squamous cell carcinomas accumulate more FDG than adenocarcinomas or large cell carcinomas. | Human | SFTPB | 6439 | surfactant protein B | To develop diagnostic markers for pulmonary adenocarcinomas, we examined the incidence and distribution of pro-SP-B and SP-B mRNA in paraffin sections of 35 non-small cell lung carcinomas (15 adenocarcinomas, 15 squamous cell carcinomas, and 5 large cell carcinomas), using immunohistochemical techniques and in situ hybridization. Squamous cell and large cell carcinomas of the lung and nonpulmonary adenocarcinomas did not contain pro-SP-B immunoreactivity or SP-B mRNA. | Human | PDYN | 5173 | prodynorphin | Ten human cell lines, six small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), one large cell carcinoma (LCC), two neuroblastoma and one lymphoblast-like cell line, were screened with a preprodynorphin cRNA-probe. | Human | PDGFRB | 5159 | platelet-derived growth factor receptor, beta polypeptide | Indirect immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization were performed for PDGF B-chain, PDGF-R beta and PCNA antibodies, and PDGF B mRNA on frozen, paraffin-embedded sections of 92 surgically resected lung carcinomas (39 squamous cell carcinomas, 47 adenocarcinomas, 2 large-cell carcinomas, 2 adenosquamous carcinomas, and 2 double carcinomas). | Human | NME1 | 4830 | NME/NM23 nucleoside diphosphate kinase 1 | The increases in nm23 mRNA expression were stronger in advanced stages of squamous-cell carcinoma, large-cell carcinoma, sarcoma and carcinoids than in early stages of the respective tumor types. |
