MAM-3 and MAM-6 antigens were detected immunohistochemically in 34 cases of adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACC) of the salivary glands and these patterns were compared to these of epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) and laminin. | | Human | MUC3B | 57876 | mucin 3B, cell surface associated | The expression of MUC3, MUC5AC, MUC6, cytokeratin (CK)7 and CK20 was studied in 20 mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MEC), 20 adenoid cystic carcinomas (AdCC), and 11 acinic cell carcinomas (ACC). | | Human | TP63 | 8626 | tumor protein p63 | Immunohistochemical staining for p63 could be a useful means of distinguishing adenoid cystic carcinoma from basaloid squamous cell carcinoma p63 Immunohistochemistry in the distinction of adenoid cystic carcinoma from basaloid squamous cell carcinoma. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of p63 immunoreactivity in the malignant salivary gland neoplasms adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) and polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) and to compare this to the expression of this marker in the benign salivary gland tumors canalicular adenoma and basal cell adenoma. p63 was detected in 100% of the adenoid cystic carcinomas (n=14) and 100% of basaloid squamous cell carcinomas (n=16). p63 positivity in adenoid cystic carcinoma appears to be homologous to that seen in the basal and/or myoepithelial compartments of salivary gland and other epithelia, and may signify a stem-cell-like role for these peripheral cells. A significant difference between p63 and p73 positivity was only seen in adenoid cystic carcinomas (p = .006). Assessment of p63 expression in the salivary gland neoplasms adenoid cystic carcinoma, polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma, and basal cell and canalicular adenomas. In all tumor types differentiated towards luminal and myoepithelial lineages (pleomorphic adenomas, basal cell adenomas, adenoid cystic carcinomas, and epithelial-myoepithelial carcinomas), p63 was expressed in myoepithelial cells, whereas luminal cells were always negative. Invasive breast carcinomas were consistently devoid of nuclear p63 staining, with the exception of the two adenoid-cystic carcinomas, of the two ductal carcinomas with squamous metaplasia, and of 11 (4.6%) ductal carcinomas not otherwise specified, showing p63 immunoreactivity in a minor fraction (5-15%) of the neoplastic cells. p63 immunostaining constitutes a specific and accurate means of distinguishing adenoid cystic carcinoma from basaloid squamous cell carcinoma. | | Human | CXCR4 | 7852 | chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 4 | Results suggest that CXCR4 expression, histological patterns, and metastatic potential are closely related in adenoid cystic carcinoma | | Human | NKX2-1 | 7080 | | We studied ten cases of BCH, one case of an unusual adenoid basal cell tumor (ABT), and one case of a prostatic adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), using a panel of antibodies to define the histogenesis of these lesions. | | Human | TIMP1 | 7076 | TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 | The present study examined the production levels of eight different MMPs (MMP-1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 13, and MT1-MMP) and two tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP-1 and 2) in homogenates of human salivary gland carcinomas [mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs), adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACCs), and adenocarcinomas (ADEs)] and non-neoplastic control salivary glands using sandwich enzyme immunoassay systems. | | Human | SPN | 6693 | sialophorin | CD43 seems to be selectively expressed in a subset of adenoid cystic carcinomas and its significance in salivary tumors is discussed | | Human | SOX4 | 6659 | SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 4 | indings suggest that Sox4 contributes to the malignant phenotype of adenoid cystic carcinoma cells by promoting cell survival | | Human | SKP2 | 6502 | S-phase kinase-associated protein 2, E3 ubiquitin protein ligase | Skp2 may play an important role in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma development through the down-regulation of p27 | | Human | SDC2 | 6383 | syndecan 2 | The results indicate that HSPG is biosynthesized by adenoid cystic carcinoma cells which are in the proliferation phase, and that tumor cells producing HSPG tend to form initial structures of stromal pseudocysts. Thirty-two cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the salivary glands were examined immunohistochemically by monoclonal antibodies to proteoglycans (PG) such as chondroitin 6 sulfate (C6SPG), chondrotin 4 sulfate (C4SPG), dermatan sulfate (DSPG), heparan sulfate (HSPG) and keratan sulfate (KSPG) in conjunction with specific enzymatic digestion. The results indicate that ACC3 cells synthesize, secrete and degrade basement membrane type HSPG, which is analogous to those produced by other cell types, and that the biosynthesis and secretion of HSPG in ACC3 cells are strictly regulated by the cell growth, that may be reflected in the characteristic histology of adenoid cystic carcinomas. In order to determine the role of the basement membrane-type heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG), known as perlecan, in the formation of the characteristic cribriform ;structures of salivary adenoid cystic carcinomas, the mode of expression of mRNA for the core protein of HSPG was investigated by using in situ hybridization (ISH) both in surgical specimens and in a cell system (ACC3) of adenoid cystic carcinomas. The biosynthesis of basement membrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG), known as perlecan, in ACC3 cells established from a adenoid cystic carcinoma of the human salivary gland was studied using metabolic labeling and immunoprecipitation with discriminative antibodies specific for HSPG core protein. | | Human | PSEN1 | 5663 | presenilin 1 | OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of intravenous administration of monoantibody to P-selectin (PS1) on the lung-metastasis characteristic of highly lung metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma cell strain (ACC-M). | | Human | PLAG1 | 5324 | pleiomorphic adenoma gene 1 | We also investigated the status of the PLAG1 gene in four cases (one PA, one CaPA, one adenoid cystic carcinoma, and one mucoepidermoid carcinoma) with 8q12 rearrangements. | | Human | PIN1 | 5300 | peptidylprolyl cis/trans isomerase, NIMA-interacting 1 | High levels of Pin1 expression is associated with salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma | | Human | PCNA | 5111 | proliferating cell nuclear antigen | clinical significance of E-cadherin and proliferating cell nuclear antigen expression in adenoid cystic carcinoma | | Human | NTRK1 | 4914 | neurotrophic tyrosine kinase, receptor, type 1 | Overexpression in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma may constitute a reason for perineural invasion | | Human | NME1 | 4830 | NME/NM23 nucleoside diphosphate kinase 1 | To evaluate the role of NM23 in SGN, the expression patterns of NM23 in the following were compared: benign (pleomorphic adenoma) vs malignant (adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma) SGN, and primary malignancies with/without evidence of metastasis vs their metastatic implants (MI).
